ABINGTON YOUTH FOOTBALL

2009 CHEERLEADING GUIDELINES

Dear parents,

We are excited to have your children participate in the Abington Youth Football Cheerleading Program! Our practice will begin between the 2nd and 3rd week of August and will be held Monday thru Friday from 5pm-7-pm at the Memorial Field behind the Frolio Jr High School. Please keep in mind these are outdoor practices and no bathroom facilities are available.

Usually around the start of school we move to indoor practices, therefore, the schedule will change and we will reduce the amount of weekly practices to 3-4 per week, Monday thru Friday and may occasionally hold a weekend practice but we try to avoid it. Unfortunately, once we are indoors the schedule is subject to change. We will do our best to keep these changes to a minimum but due to coaches schedule and gym availability it is sometimes difficult to keep a set schedule. The following guidelines will be strictly enforced.

Please read through the following guidelines, sign and return the bottom portion.

1     Attendance at all practices and games is mandatory and will be strictly enforced. Any cheerleader with more than three (3) absences will be dismissed from the squad.

2     We will keep track of late arrivals and early dismissals from all games and practices. Once you have 90 minutes (11/2 hours) this will be counted as one absence.

3     You are to attend practices prepared, and in proper work out attire such as sneakers, gym shorts, t-shirts,etc.

4     You are expected to fully participate in all practices and games unless you present us with a doctor’s note indicating you have any restrictions. Otherwise, failure to participate will result in disciplinary actions.

5     You are to respect your coaches at all times, be cooperative and pay attention…they are here for you!

6     You are not to begin practices without the supervision of a coach or parent advisor.

7     If you will not be at a game or practice you must notify your parent advisor as soon as possible. You are not to rely on other cheerleaders or the coaches to inform us of your absences.

8     If we need to speak with you regarding any behavior issues we will issue a verbal warning. In the case that you receive two (2) warnings we will send home a written notice to your parents or guardian regarding this situation and a copy will be sent to the A.Y.F. Board.

9     We do practice in light rain, if you think a practice may be cancelled it is your responsibility to call your advisor approximately ½ hour prior to the practice. Do not assume it is called off.

10     If the game is not cancelled all cheerleaders are to attend regardless of the weather.

11     Please be prompt when picking up your child from the games and practices. There will be 8-10 games per season beginning in September. The games are

held either on Saturday nights or Sunday afternoons.

12     You are to arrive at the games 45 minutes prior to your team’s kick off time.

13     At no time are the parents to confront a coach with any issues. If there is something that needs to be addressed, speak with your parent advisor or coordinator. As always any parent may feel free to contact the cheerleading board representative with any questions, comments, problems or concerns.

14     No jewelry, long fingernails, or hard hair clips/barrettes are allowed. Your hair should be neatly pulled away from your face. Long hair should be worn in ponytails or braids. Absolutely, no side bangs will be down during practices or games.

15     AYF will provide you with a skirt and vest. A uniform deposit will be collected prior to the disbursement of any uniform pieces. This check will be returned to you at the end of the season provided the uniform is returned in good condition. The uniforms are to be worn only at A.Y.F. games and competitions.

16     You must attend games in full uniform. The full uniform consist of skirt, vest, body suit, briefs, and bow. Socks and sneakers.

17     During the games you are to stay in your cheer lines unless directed otherwise by your coach or advisor. After half time you are to return immediately to your cheer lines. No eating or chewing gum during the games. Water bottles are allowed.

18     At no time is any A.Y.F. cheerleader allowed to harass anyone from the opposing team. Our role is to show our team spirit and represent our organization in a courteous and friendly manner.

19     You will not be allowed to participate in A.Y.F. cheerleading until you return the signed portion of these guidelines.
